Thupten Dongak Choeling Monastery was established by Trulshik Rinpoche in 1967 AD. He visited many places like Khumbulung, Chiwang, Thotung, etc for a suitable place to build the monastery. After careful investigation he found Thuptenchoeling to be the perfect place to build the monastery. As soon as the construction of the monastery was completed; His holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, His Holiness Kyabje Dhilgo Khentse Dorje Chyang and His holiness Trulshik Rinpoche together conferred the name of the monastery.
